PSU Hope Plans Friday Candle Vigil at Old Main

It’s not a relatively new phenomena that in the immediate aftermath of a wide reaching scandal that the victims of often times unspeakable acts are forgotten about, overlooked, and widely disregarded for a more catchier lede, a more attention grabbing column, or a more sharable tweet. It’s not the way it should be, but it is.

But every victim has a story bigger than a couple sentences, an engraved, terrifying memory that deserves more than whatever space the back page has to offer, and a harrowing recollection of what occurred that does not deserved to be chopped down in to 140 retweetable characters.

The victims of the alleged crimes committed by Jerry Sandusky, children who could not speak or protect themselves, not remove themselves from a devastating situation, and are now faced with a life full of tortured images, potential self guilt, and a life one could never potentially know as normal.

However, PSU Hope is trying to change that. The group, which appears to only have a Twitter presence at this point,  is set to hold a candlelight vigil on the steps of Old Main this Friday, at 9:30 p.m., to pay respect to and honor victims that they will never know, and most likely never meet, but attempt anyway to offer a glimmer of hope through a myriad of flickering candle lights.

If there is one thing that can alter a victim of any sort of crime hope, promise, and a feeling of help, it is support, and we are all aware of the ability the Penn State student body possesses to ban together for a good cause. So light a match, hold a candle, and help begin the slow and painful grieving process in near silence, allowing the striking of a match to finally start vindicating the lives of Sandusky’s alleged victims.
